Dr. Xiaobei Chen is professor of sociology in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Carleton University. She holds degrees from Guizhou University, University of Hong Kong, and University of Toronto. She received a prestigious Killam postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Alberta. Her research and teaching interests include: sociology of childhood and youth, governance and power, citizenship, racism, colonialism, gender, and Asian diasporas especially the Chinese diaspora. She is the author of Tending the Gardens of Citizenship: Child Saving in Toronto, 1880s – 1920s and a co-editor of The Sociology of Childhood and Youth in Canada and Reading Sociology, among other publications. She was the recipient of Canadian Sociological Association Outstanding Contribution Award in 2023.

She was Associate Chair (2018-2019, 2020-2021) of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Carleton University. She was elected President (2020-2021) of the Canadian Sociological Association. She serves on the Board of Elmwood School and is a member of Elmwood’s Development Committee. She is also Co-Chair of Canada China Focus, Centre for Global Studies, University of Victoria.

陈小蓓（Xiaobei Chen）博士是卡尔顿大学（Carleton University）社会学与人类学系的社会学教授。她先后毕业于贵州大学、香港大学和多伦多大学，并曾在阿尔伯塔大学（University of Alberta）获得著名的基拉姆（Killam）博士后研究奖学金。她的研究与教学领域涵盖：儿童与青少年社会学、治理与权力、公民身份、种族主义、殖民主义、性别，以及亚裔群体（特别是华人华裔群体）研究。她是《培育公民身份的花园：19世纪80年代至20世纪20年代多伦多的“拯救儿童”运动》（Tending the Gardens of Citizenship: Child Saving in Toronto, 1880s – 1920s）一书的作者，并参与合编了《加拿大的儿童与青少年社会学》（The Sociology of Childhood and Youth in Canada）和《解读社会学》（Reading Sociology）等著作。她于2023年荣获加拿大社会学协会（Canadian Sociological Association）颁发的杰出贡献奖。

她曾担任卡尔顿大学社会学与人类学系的副系主任（2018-2019年及2020-2021年），并曾当选为加拿大社会学协会主席（2020-2021年）。目前，她是埃尔姆伍德学校（Elmwood School）的董事会成员及发展委员会成员，同时担任维多利亚大学（University of Victoria）全球研究中心“加拿大-中国聚焦”（Canada China Focus）项目的联合主席。
