Article | Zodiac Painting Organizing Committee - December 24, 2025, 23:05
Dear Community Partners and Friends in the Business Community,

The hoofbeats of the Lunar Year of the Horse are drawing near, heralding a year brimming with vitality, progress, and auspicious success. Initiated by the Ottawa Chinese Language School (OCLS) Charity, the 3rd Ottawa Youth Zodiac Painting Competition is now in full swing!

The Awards Ceremony and New Year Carnival will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at 710 Broadview Ave (inside the Capital Chinese School). This event will serve as a stage for young talents to shine and a heartwarming gathering for families to celebrate culture and connect.
Following the tremendous success of the previous "Dragon Soaring" and "Snake Dancing" themed competitions, this year's contest invites all young art enthusiasts in the Greater Ottawa area to pick up their brushes. We encourage them to depict the spirited essence of the horse, collectively inheriting and innovating upon the splendid legacy of the Chinese zodiac culture.
This is more than just a competition; it is an anticipated annual cultural gala expected to attract over 400 young artists and capture the attention of more than 700 community members. We sincerely extend an invitation to all business partners who value community development and cultural heritage. Join us as an honored companion on this journey of art and dreams.

I. Rooted in Community, Building Cultural Bridges: Our Journey & Vision
Since its inception, this competition has been deeply rooted in serving the Chinese community and nurturing cultural identity in the next generation. Looking back at the 2nd competition (Year of the Snake) in early 2025, we successfully collected hundreds of inspired artworks. The children's pieces formed a moving "visual rainbow" at the awards ceremony, where their innocent perspectives and extraordinary creativity infused ancient zodiac culture with fresh vitality, earning widespread community acclaim.

Building on this success, the Year of the Horse competition sets sail from an even higher starting point. Based on community feedback, the organizing committee has not only added competition categories (Professional, Amateur, AI Artwork) and increased the award ratio, but will also display all submitted works at the event. Families and friends are invited to visit and appreciate them. Selected outstanding works will have the opportunity to tour multiple locations in subsequent New Year activities.
We firmly believe that artistic cultivation is one of the most precious gifts for the next generation. Through this painting competition, we aim not only to spark creativity in youth but also to plant seeds of cultural confidence, weaving a strong and vibrant cultural bond within the Chinese community in Canada.
